About the Composer: Dennis Alexander

Dennis Alexander has shaped educational piano pedagogy for decades through his prolific output and teaching career. Starting at the University of Montana in 1972, where he directed the piano department while teaching applied piano, class piano, and piano pedagogy for 24 years, Alexander brought his classroom experience directly into his compositions. His partnership with Alfred Music Publishing, which began in 1986, has produced over 400 publications and recordings that reflect his deep understanding of how students learn and grow at the keyboard.

Beyond his university tenure, Alexander maintained an active performance schedule as a soloist, chamber musician, and collaborative artist, and he has been a sought-after clinician at state and national music teachers conventions. His work has earned commissions from organizations across the country, and his influence extends internationally through teaching residencies, master classes, and performances in Asia, Europe, and beyond. He currently resides in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he continues composing for Alfred Music.
