More about this title
About the Composer: Nikki Sixx
Nikki Sixx is a bassist, songwriter, and founding member of Motley Crue, one of rock's most influential and commercially successful bands. Beyond his work as an instrumentalist, Sixx has composed and co-written many of the band's most recognizable songs, establishing himself as a songwriter who understands how to build anthemic hooks and memorable melodic lines within hard rock and metal contexts.
In addition to his decades-long career with Motley Crue, Sixx co-founded Sixx:A.M., a supergroup project that brought together musicians from different bands to create new material. His work as a composer across multiple projects reflects his ongoing influence on rock and metal songwriting, shaping the sound of multiple generations of hard rock musicians.
Why we love this
This folio gives guitarists direct access to 18 chart-proven hard rock and metal songs from the original Crüe Fest tour, including heavy hitters from Motley Crue, Papa Roach, Godsmack, and others. The Authentic Guitar TAB format captures the exact parts as performed, so players can learn songs the way their favorite artists played them. For students interested in rock and metal, this collection offers legitimate repertoire that builds both technique and repertoire knowledge in a genre they care about.
What to expect
Raw, driving, and unapologetic. These songs carry the attitude and aggression of early 2000s hard rock and metal, with heavy rhythms, soaring solos, and the kind of melodic sensibility that makes songs stick in your head long after the final chord. Whether you're working through a power ballad or a high-octane riff, the music demands precision and commitment.
Who it's for
This folio is for electric guitarists working in rock and metal who want to learn songs from well-known bands in a context that matters to them. It suits self-directed learners, private students studying hard rock and metal guitar, and ensemble players looking to build chops on repertoire they actually listen to.
How to get the most out of it
- Pay attention to palm-muting techniques, especially in the verses and rhythmic sections; the TAB will indicate string damping, but dialing in the right amount of muting takes ear training and repetition
- Lock into the drum patterns in your head or with a metronome before adding leads; metal and hard rock rely on tight rhythmic precision, and sloppiness becomes obvious fast
- Study the distortion tone and gain settings used on the original recordings; the same TAB played cleanly or with the wrong amp settings will sound completely different
How to use it
Students studying rock and metal guitar can use this as a performance repertoire resource or as supplementary material alongside more traditional guitar methods. Teachers can recommend specific songs based on a student's technical level and musical interests, using authentic arrangements to build motivation and real-world musicianship.
