About the Composer: Jay Althouse

Jay Althouse

Jay Althouse studied music education at Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where he earned both his bachelor's and master's degrees and was later recognized with the Distinguished Alumni award. Early in his career, he spent eight years managing rights and licensing for a major educational publisher, a role that included service on the Executive Board of the Music Publishers Association of America.

Althouse has established himself as a prolific composer with more than 800 choral works in print, performed widely across English-speaking countries. Beyond composition, he has curated and arranged respected vocal solo collections, co-authored instructional books including The Complete Choral Warm-up Book and Accent on Composers, and written classroom resources on music literacy and composer study. As a member of ASCAP, he regularly receives the organization's Special Award for his contributions to standard music repertoire. He has also co-created children's musicals with his wife Sally K. Albrecht and served in leadership roles with the North Carolina Master Chorale and the Folk Art Society of America.
