About the Composer: Mark Williams
Mark Williams built his reputation as one of the most prolific and accessible composers for school ensembles, with over 200 published works spanning band, orchestra, and choral settings. Born in Chicago and based in Spokane, Washington, he spent decades teaching elementary band while also serving as a woodwind performer and arranger for the 560th Air Force Band. His co-authorship of the Accent on Achievement Band Method shaped how countless students first encountered ensemble playing.
Williams traveled extensively as a clinician and guest conductor across 34 states, five Canadian provinces, and Australia, bringing his pedagogical expertise directly to music programs. He earned recognition from the Western International Band Clinic's Gralia Competition and multiple ASCAP Special Awards. Beyond the page, he performed bassoon regularly and served as Conductor and Artistic Director for the Spokane British Brass Band, maintaining deep roots in the musical communities he served.
