About the Composer: Gary Fagan
Gary Fagan brings four decades of band direction experience to his work as a composer and arranger. A Maryland native, he spent 36 years leading ensembles in Albemarle County before transitioning to university supervision at James Madison University, where he also teaches arranging as adjunct faculty. His compositions and arrangements have reached audiences at the Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic, the White House, and gubernatorial ceremonies, establishing him as a voice in American band music.
Fagan's contributions to music education extend beyond the concert hall. He has received the Central Virginia Outstanding Middle School Teacher award from the University of Virginia's Phi Delta Kappa chapter, recognition from the Virginia Governor's School for the Visual and Performing Arts, and honors from the Piedmont Council of the Arts. Active as a clinician, adjudicator, and percussionist with the Charlottesville Band, Fagan holds degrees in music education from Bridgewater College and a master's degree from James Madison University. He maintains professional memberships in ASCAP, the National Band Association, and Phi Beta Mu Bandmasters Fraternity.
