William Owens brings three decades of classroom experience to his compositional work, having spent 30 years directing bands in Texas before his retirement in 2014. Born in Gary, Indiana, and trained at VanderCook College of Music, he has established himself as a prolific voice in young band literature with over 300 published titles since 1993. His work appears on contest and festival lists nationwide and has been featured in music education texts as a standard reference for the repertoire.

Owens holds membership in ASCAP, the Texas Music Educators Association, and Phi Beta Mu International, and has received commissions from South Plains College, the American Bandmasters Association, and Phi Beta Mu. He was recognized as a Distinguished Alumnus by VanderCook and earned the Texas Bandmasters Association's Meritorious Achievement Award. His compositional approach combines musical substance with practical teachability, a balance that comes directly from his years in the rehearsal room.
