He earned his bachelor's in choral conducting from the University of North Alabama before pursuing advanced keyboard studies at Juilliard, where he refined his piano performance skills to professional caliber.

Since 1999, Raney has become a cornerstone of American church music, with over 300 published works spanning choral anthems, musicals, cantatas, handbell scores, and instrumental pieces. His career spans classical and jazz performance, Broadway musical direction, commercial scoring (including over 2000 television and radio spots), and clinician work throughout North America. He serves as Editor at Hope Publishing and currently holds the position of Minister of Music at First Baptist Church of Oak Park, Illinois.
