About the Composer: Richard Meyer
Richard Meyer brings decades of classroom experience and national recognition as both an educator and composer. He spent 35 years teaching strings across elementary, middle, and high school levels, and for 22 of those years directed the orchestras at Oak Avenue Intermediate School in Temple City, California, expanding the program from 29 students to 200 while overseeing the city's elementary string curriculum.
Beyond the classroom, Meyer has shaped music education through innovative community initiatives and national leadership. He founded the "Giving Bach" program in 2009, which uses interactive concerts to reach special needs and underserved students throughout Southern California. His conducting career includes 16 years leading the Pasadena Youth Symphony Orchestra in performances across New York, Washington D.C., Vienna, Australia, and Canada. As a composer, he has published over 190 works and arrangements, served as string editor for Alfred Publishing Company for 16 years, and co-authored several string method series including String Explorer and Sight-read It for Strings.
