About the Arranger: Robert D. McCashin

Robert D. McCashin, DMA, spent 43 years in higher education as a conductor and string pedagogue, culminating his career as Professor Emeritus and former Director of Orchestras at James Madison University. He holds degrees in violin performance from Louisiana State University and a doctorate in conducting from the University of Arizona, and received JMU's Distinguished Teacher Award in 2015. From 1992 to 2016, he led the university's orchestras and taught conducting and applied strings at the graduate and undergraduate levels.

McCashin is also an accomplished violinist and prolific arranger with nearly 80 published works spanning Grade 1 through 5. Many of his arrangements have earned bestseller status and recognition as Editors' Choice selections in educational music publishing. Before joining James Madison, he taught at the University of Texas at Arlington and Texas Wesleyan University, where he performed with regional orchestras, conducted youth ensembles, and maintained an active private studio. He is co-author of the widely adopted string method series New Directions® for Strings and A Scale in Time.
