More about this title

About the Composer: Andy Beck

Andy Beck

Andy Beck directs choral publications at Alfred Music and has composed and arranged over 450 choral works, vocal resources, and children's musicals that are performed by singers across the globe. His educational materials, including Sing at First Sight, Foundations in Choral Sight Singing, and Vocalize! 45 Vocal Warm-Ups That Teach Technique, are standard resources in choral classrooms and rehearsal halls.

Beyond the page, Beck works as a guest conductor, choreographer, adjudicator, and clinician for music educators and students throughout the United States and internationally. He has served as a commissioned composer and guest conductor for honor choirs of all ages, including all-state ensembles across the Southeast. A trained tenor with degrees in Music Education from Ithaca College and Northwest Missouri State University, he actively performs with the North Carolina Master Chorale Chamber Choir and continues his work as an Alfred Music studio singer. His commitment to music literacy, choral artistry, and arts education shapes both his compositions and his stewardship of Alfred's choral catalog.

Why we love this

Beck's novelty pieces have a gift for capturing seasonal joy without condescension. The recorded accompaniment in this digital download means your singers hear a professional interpretation immediately, removing barriers to rehearsal and freeing your time for musicality rather than learning the harmonic landscape.

What to expect

Playful and bright, with the kind of cheerful energy that captures the fun of a snowy day. The piece radiates seasonal warmth without feeling forced or overly sentimental.

Who it's for

This digital download works for any choir seeking accessible, uplifting winter programming, from high school choirs to community ensembles. The recorded accompaniment makes it practical for directors managing multiple rehearsals or students learning independently.

How to get the most out of it

  • Establish the rhythmic character early in rehearsals using the recorded accompaniment; let singers hear how the groove sits before drilling parts.
  • Balance the melody with supporting voices so text remains clear even in moments of fuller texture.
  • Consider what physical energy or movement complements the novelty character; this piece invites ensemble personality.

How to use it

Pair this with more traditional or serious winter repertoire to create programming balance at a holiday concert. Its accessible character also makes it ideal for outreach performances or informal community settings where joy and connection matter more than technical difficulty.

Skills your students will build

  • Rhythmic precision and ensemble synchronization
  • Clarity of diction in a novelty style
  • Balance and blend across voice parts
  • Interpretation and expressive choices within a lighter genre
