About the Composer: Brian Balmages
Brian Balmages has built a remarkable career as a composer and conductor working across orchestral, band, and chamber music with equal fluency. His works have graced stages including Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, and the Sydney Opera House, performed by ensembles ranging from professional orchestras to elementary school groups. He received the A. Austin Harding Award from the American School Band Directors Association and won the 2020 NBA William D. Revelli Composition Contest for Love and Light. Balmages holds membership in the American Bandmasters Association and earned the inaugural James Madison University Distinguished Alumni Award from the School of Visual and Performing Arts.
As a conductor, Balmages maintains active guest conducting relationships with all-state, regional, university, and professional ensembles worldwide. He has appeared at the Midwest Clinic, Western International Band Clinic, College Band Directors Conference, and numerous state music conferences. His music was performed at the 2013 Presidential Inaugural Prayer Service, and he was commissioned by the University of Miami to compose for the inauguration of the institution's sixth president. Currently, Balmages serves as Director of MakeMusic Publications and Digital Education for Alfred and MakeMusic.
