About the Arranger: Joel Raney

Joel Raney's musical foundation was laid at a piano keyboard in rural Alabama, where gospel music from his Baptist church became the sonic language of his compositional voice. He earned his choral conducting degree from the University of North Alabama before pursuing advanced keyboard studies at Juilliard, a combination that uniquely positioned him to write for both voices and instruments with equal facility.

Since 1999, Raney has become one of the most prolific voices in church music, with over 300 published works spanning choral anthems, musicals, cantatas, handbell scores, and instrumental pieces. His background extends well beyond the sanctuary: he has composed commercial music in Chicago since 1988 (including soundtracks for thousands of broadcast spots), conducted national Broadway tours, and earned recognition for theatrical music direction in major markets. He serves as Editor at Hope Publishing and remains active as a clinician, solo pianist, and collaborative performer with organist Jane Holstein.
