About the Composer: Andrew H Dabczynski
Andrew H. Dabczynski is an Emeritus Professor of Music Education at Brigham Young University, where he founded and directed the BYU "New Horizons Orchestra," an ensemble that serves adult beginners and functions as a training laboratory for string educators. His pedagogical contributions earned him BYU's Joseph E. White Fellowship for Teaching and Learning, and Utah ASTA recognized him as "Higher Education Teacher of the Year" in 2005 and again in 2014 for outstanding service to music education.
Dabczynski's career spans performance, teaching, and administration across multiple institutions including the Eastman School of Music, the Hartford and Rochester Philharmonics, and public school districts throughout the Northeast and Midwest. He earned degrees from Eastman (B.M. in viola performance), the University of Connecticut (M.A.), and the University of Michigan (Ph.D. in Music Education). Beyond his orchestral and pedagogical work, Dabczynski holds deep expertise in folk music and ethnomusicology, interests that have shaped his research on traditional fiddling practices and informed his widely used String Explorer method series with Alfred Music.
