About the Composer: Robert Sheldon
Robert Sheldon stands among the most widely performed composers in wind band repertoire. His works appear on contest and concert programs globally, and his output continues to shape what bands at all levels perform. Beyond composition, Sheldon shaped instrumental music education as lead author of Sound Innovations for Concert Band, ensuring his pedagogical vision reaches classrooms everywhere.
His contributions have earned recognition from the American School Band Director's Association, Phi Beta Mu, and ASCAP. Sheldon regularly conducts All-State and Regional Honor Bands, presents clinics at universities and state music education conferences, and accepts commissions for new works. His compositions have been performed at Carnegie Hall, Orchestra Hall, Boston Symphony Hall, the Sydney Opera House, and the Kennedy Center. VanderCook College of Music granted him an honorary doctorate in 2020.
