Joseph M. Martin studied piano performance at Furman University and later earned his master's degree from the University of Texas at Austin, where he also taught in the Piano Pedagogy Department for five years. A accomplished solo pianist and frequent guest artist with orchestras across the United States and Mexico, he won the Nina Plant Wideman Competition and performed with the Guadalajara Symphony Orchestra; his recital at Ex-convento del Carmen was broadcast nationally.

These days, Martin channels his compositional energy into sacred music and church music conferences rather than the concert circuit, though he continues performing regularly. His works span an impressive range of styles and contexts, from Carnegie Hall to worship services in hundreds of churches across North America. He lives in Austin, Texas with his family.
