Description
Lesson Book 4 is the last in the Music for Little Mozarts series. After a review, the new concepts taught are: Flat and sharp sign; Tie; Crescendo and diminuendo. After reviewing C position and Middle C position, G position is taught. All three positions are used alternately throughout the rest of the book, with flat and sharp notes incorporated. When the student is finished with Lesson Book 4, he/she moves either into Alfred's Basic Piano Library, Prep Course, Level C or Alfred's Premier Piano Course, Level 1B.

About the Authors
Christine H. Barden is recognized internationally as a leading voice in early childhood music education. She co-authored Alfred's Music for Little Mozarts preschool piano method and currently teaches piano privately in Reno, Nevada, where she instructs prize-winning students in piano and composition while also leading Music for Little Mozarts classes.
Her musical training and professional development span multiple countries and traditions. Barden holds a degree in piano performance from San Francisco State University, where she studied with Vladimir Brenner, a piano soloist for the NBC Symphony Orchestra. She spent four years in Europe studying, performing, and teaching, and became one of the first American teachers to study with Yamaha Music Foundation instructors in Japan. Over 17 years with Yamaha, she held significant leadership roles including Director of Curriculum and National Chief Instructor for the Yamaha Music Education System.
As an in-demand clinician, Barden has conducted teacher workshops at conferences throughout the United States and internationally in England, Norway, and Singapore. Her published compositions with Alfred include the Music for Little Mozarts series and various piano solos, notably "Etude Toccata," which was selected as a Junior Festival piece by the National Federation of Music Clubs.

Dr. Gayle Kowalchyk serves as a piano instructor and pedagogy professor at California State University, Northridge, where she teaches class piano, individual piano, and piano teaching methods. She earned her bachelor's degree in piano performance from Ohio University in 1977, followed by a master's degree in piano performance and pedagogy from Northwestern University in 1979, and completed her doctorate in piano pedagogy at Teachers College, Columbia University in 1989.
Throughout her career, Dr. Kowalchyk has held faculty positions at Eastern Illinois University, where she oversaw the class piano program and directed the preparatory division, as well as at Oklahoma Baptist University and the University of Oklahoma. During the early 1980s, she spent summers teaching class piano and ensemble at the National Music Camp in Interlochen, Michigan. She has become a sought-after clinician and adjudicator, presenting at major conferences including those hosted by the Music Teachers National Association, Music Educators National Conference, National Group Piano Symposium, and the World Piano Pedagogy Conference.
In collaboration with her husband, Dr. E. L. Lancaster, Dr. Kowalchyk has authored more than 300 educational piano publications, including the widely recognized Alfred's Premier Piano Course and Music for Little Mozarts. From 1981 to 1996, she and her husband operated an independent piano studio in Norman, Oklahoma, teaching students across all age groups. Based in the Los Angeles area, she currently serves as a clinician for Alfred Music while continuing her teaching practice.

E. L. Lancaster served as Executive Editor of Piano for Alfred Music and currently teaches piano as adjunct faculty at California State University, Northridge. He earned degrees from Murray State University and the University of Illinois, along with a Ph.D. from Northwestern University.
From 1979 to 1998, Lancaster was Professor of Music at the University of Oklahoma, Norman, where he established the master's and doctoral programs in piano pedagogy. He served as Major Professor for more than 50 doctoral dissertations and taught pre-college students through the Piano Pedagogy Laboratory Program. His teaching excellence earned him multiple university awards, including the Regents Award for Superior Teaching (1984), the David Ross Boyd Professorship (1991), and the Provost's Outstanding Academic Advising Award (1996). Murray State University recognized him with the 2014 Distinguished Alumnus Award.
Lancaster has been deeply involved in professional organizations, serving as National Chairman of Group Piano and National Conference Chair for MTNA. He held leadership positions within the National Conference on Piano Pedagogy and was named a Signature Sinfonian by Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia in 2013.
