Jorge L. Vargas is a Mexican American composer and arranger whose works span concert band, marching band, string orchestra, and mariachi ensemble. A graduate of The University of Texas at San Antonio and Lamar University, Vargas has spent his career developing young musicians as a band director and clinician. His compositions have earned recognition on state and festival lists, appeared on the J.W. Pepper Editor's Choice list and Bandworld Magazine's Top 100, and been featured at prestigious venues including the Midwest Clinic in Chicago.
Vargas was born in Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico, and brings a rich cultural perspective to his arranging and composing work. He has taught at Memorial Junior High in Eagle Pass, Texas, where he directed the concert band and mariachi program while coordinating beginner classes. His music reflects a deep commitment to accessible, engaging writing for developing ensembles.
