Christian Petzold (1677–1733) was a German Baroque composer and organist working primarily in Dresden. Though his output was substantial, much of his music remained in manuscript for centuries, and many works once attributed to him have been reassigned to other composers. His keyboard works, including minuets and other dance forms, display the elegant galant style characteristic of early 18th-century German composition.
Petzold's music survives largely through the efforts of music historians and publishers who excavated his manuscripts from archives. For students and teachers, his pieces offer approachable entry points into Baroque keyboard style without the technical demands of Bach or Handel.
