About the Composer: Richard Meyer

Richard Meyer spent 35 years teaching strings in public schools, including 22 years directing orchestras at Oak Avenue Intermediate School in Temple City, California, where he expanded the program from 29 students to 200. He led the Pasadena Youth Symphony Orchestra for 16 years, taking ensembles on international tours to Vienna, Australia, and Canada, while also serving as a guest conductor and clinician at major conferences and All-State festivals across the country.

Beyond the podium, Meyer is a prolific composer with over 190 published works and arrangements in print. He spent 16 years as string editor for Alfred Publishing Company and co-authored the String Explorer Series and Sight-read It for Strings. In 2009, he launched the "Giving Bach" program at his school, an innovative concert initiative that has gained national recognition for bringing live music to special needs and underserved students throughout Southern California.
