About the Composer: Brian Balmages

Brian Balmages composes across orchestral, band, and chamber idioms with equal facility, and his works have reached audiences everywhere from Carnegie Hall to the Sydney Opera House to elementary school gymnasiums. He holds the A. Austin Harding Award from the American School Band Directors Association, won the 2020 NBA William D. Revelli Composition Contest, and serves as an elected member of the American Bandmasters Association. His music has appeared in prestigious contexts including the 2013 Presidential Inaugural Prayer Service and commissions from major universities.

As a conductor, Balmages maintains active relationships with all-state ensembles, university groups, and professional orchestras worldwide. He has guest conducted at the Midwest Clinic, Western International Band Clinic, and numerous national conferences. Currently serving as Director of MakeMusic Publications and Digital Education for Alfred and MakeMusic, he continues to shape both the repertoire and the future of music education.
