About the Composer: Brian Balmages
Brian Balmages has built an international reputation as a composer and conductor whose output encompasses orchestral, band, and chamber idioms in equal measure. His works have reached audiences at Carnegie Hall, the Kennedy Center, Sydney Opera House, and countless school concert halls worldwide. He holds membership in the American Bandmasters Association and received the A. Austin Harding Award from the American School Band Directors Association, along with the 2020 NBA William D. Revelli Composition Contest award for Love and Light.
Balmages has conducted ensembles ranging from all-state groups to professional orchestras across North America, Australia, and Europe. His music appeared in the 2013 Presidential Inaugural Prayer Service, and he was commissioned by the University of Miami to compose for the inauguration of President Julio Frenk. He holds degrees from James Madison University and the University of Miami, receiving the inaugural Distinguished Alumni Award from JMU's School of Visual and Performing Arts. Currently, he serves as Director of MakeMusic Publications and Digital Education for Alfred and MakeMusic.
