More about this title

About the Composer: Jennifer Linn

Jennifer Linn

Jennifer Linn has spent over three decades at the intersection of performance, pedagogy, and composition. A University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory graduate with degrees in piano performance, she has shaped the musical training of countless students through private studio teaching, group instruction, and university-level piano pedagogy courses. Her clinical work takes her across North America and beyond, leading workshops and master classes that bridge the gap between technique and artistry.

Linn's publishing legacy speaks to her understanding of what students need. She has authored more than 300 original compositions, arrangements, and editions distributed by Alfred, G. Schirmer, Hal Leonard, and Music Sales America. Her decade as Manager of Educational Piano at Hal Leonard gave her insight into the realities of music education at every level. Recognition of her contributions includes the 2013 UMKC Alumni of the Year award and the 2020 Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award.

Why we love this

Linn brings a refined sensibility to pedagogical writing, crafting pieces that reward careful listening while remaining accessible. This piece balances musical substance with technical clarity, offering students the satisfaction of playing something genuinely charming rather than merely functional.

What to expect

A delicate, elegant miniature with the warmth of its title. The piece evokes refinement and gentle sophistication, inviting the performer to linger over its musical details and discover layers of expression within its compact form.

Who it's for

Intermediate piano students ready to explore character pieces with harmonic depth and expressive range. Teachers seeking material that develops musicality alongside technical facility will find this a valuable addition to their repertoire library.

How to get the most out of it

  • Shape each phrase with natural breathing points, allowing the piece to flow conversationally rather than mechanically.
  • Attend to dynamic nuance throughout; subtle contrasts create the sophistication that makes this work memorable.
  • Balance the melody's lyrical quality with clarity in the accompaniment, ensuring both layers remain distinct.

How to use it

Feature this as a graceful interlude on a studio recital, or pair it with other character pieces by Linn to showcase her distinctive voice. Its modest length and accessible charm make it ideal for students preparing their first solo performances.
