Michael Hopkins leads the music education program at the University of Michigan, where he specializes in string pedagogy and teaches courses spanning orchestra methods, conducting techniques, and the intersections of music psychology and learning. His career has encompassed conducting positions at the University of Vermont and middle and high school orchestras across Colorado, Michigan, and Vermont, alongside founding and directing the Burlington Chamber Orchestra. He has presented over 60 sessions at national and state conferences on string education and music technology, establishing himself as a thought leader in the field.

Hopkins has published extensively in peer-reviewed journals including the Journal of Research in Music Education, American String Teacher, and Music Educators' Journal. His textbook, The Art of String Teaching (GIA Publications), serves as a comprehensive resource for pre-service teachers, orchestral conductors, and private studio instructors.
