About the Arranger: James D. Ployhar

James D. Ployhar has established himself as a prolific and influential figure in music education through over 800 published compositions and arrangements. His pedagogical reach extends far beyond the United States; the Contemporary Band Course he developed has been adopted internationally, translated into French and Norwegian, and remains central to music curricula throughout Norway. Ployhar's training in orchestration benefited from direct study with Knud Havalde of the Danish Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, grounding his work in professional ensemble practice.

Beyond the page, Ployhar spent more than nineteen years as a public school music teacher and has maintained an active career as a clinician and conductor at the college and university level. His credentials include degrees from Valley City State University, Northern Colorado University, and graduate composition study at California State University-Long Beach. He has been honored with the National Band Association Citation of Excellence and the Distinguished Alumnus Award, and holds membership in the American Bandmasters Association. His work has been performed internationally across Europe, Japan, and the Pacific Rim.
