After spending 35 years teaching instrumental music and directing bands in the Parkland School District (Allentown, PA), he moved into higher education as Associate Professor of Music at Cairn University in Langhorne, Pennsylvania. His catalog of more than 120 published works for concert band, string orchestra, and chamber ensembles draws strength from his dual engagement with contemporary classical music and the practical realities of school music programs.

Watson's compositions have been performed internationally and at major American venues including the Academy of Music in Philadelphia, the Midwest Clinic in Chicago, and the White House. He serves as an exclusive composer and clinician for Alfred Publications and contributes to their Sound Innovations series. Beyond composing, he has authored educational texts on music technology and regularly leads workshops and clinics for music educators and festival bands.
