About the Composer: William Owens
William Owens has spent decades composing for young musicians across North America, building a catalog of over 300 works since 1993 that includes concert band, string orchestra, and chamber music. A VanderCook College of Music graduate and Distinguished Alumnus, he brings both compositional sophistication and practical classroom experience to every score he writes. His pieces appear on contest lists and in educational curricula nationwide, and his work has been examined in music education texts as essential young band repertoire.
After 30 years directing bands in Texas public schools, Owens stepped away from full-time teaching in 2014 to focus on composition and guest conducting. His honors include recognition from the Texas Bandmasters Association, commissions from regional colleges and national bandmasters organizations, and membership in ASCAP. Based in Fort Worth, his understanding of what young ensembles need comes from the podium and the rehearsal room.
