About the Composer: Sally K. Albrecht

Sally K. Albrecht has spent more than three decades shaping choral music for schools, first as Director of School Choral, Vocal, and Elementary Publications at major educational publishers and later as a sought-after conductor and clinician. Her catalog includes over 600 choral publications alongside 75 larger works for stage and concert, all while maintaining her reputation for innovative choral movement and arrangement. She has conducted honor choirs at prestigious venues including Lincoln Center, Carnegie Hall, and The Kennedy Center, and has been recognized annually by ASCAP with the Special Music Award since 1987.
Albrecht holds degrees from Rollins College (B.A. in Music and Theater, 1976), the University of Miami (M.A. in Drama, 1979; M.M. in Accompanying, 1979), and has taught at Oakland University, Jersey City State College, and Meredith College. She received the Distinguished Alumna Award from both the University of Miami Frost School of Music and Rollins College in 2021, and served as Chair of the Board of Trustees for the Omicron Delta Kappa National Leadership Honor Society.
Why we love this
Albrecht delivers exactly what developing choirs need: a piece that sounds festive and confident without demanding technical virtuosity. The six-language approach gives students genuine cultural content rather than surface-level holiday decoration, and the pronunciation guide removes the usual barrier to tackling unfamiliar texts. Young singers will feel the joy in this up-tempo melody while building real musical confidence during the December rush.
What to expect
Bright and inclusive, with the warmth of a holiday greeting shared across languages. The up-tempo melody invites movement and celebrates joy without requiring harmonic complexity, making students feel genuinely musical even at early developmental stages.
Who it's for
Young and developing school choirs seeking accessible holiday repertoire with cultural substance. Directors looking for a confident, singable piece that teaches respect for multiple traditions in one concert slot.
How to get the most out of it
- Spend rehearsal time on the pronunciation guide before tackling the melody; clean diction in multiple languages becomes a point of pride rather than a stumbling block.
- Shape the joyous tempo with clear dynamics and consonant articulation so the energy lands without sounding rushed.
- Consider staging or simple movement to highlight the multicultural theme; Albrecht's background in choral movement suggests the piece can carry physical storytelling.
- Balance blend across the two parts while letting the melody float clearly through the upper line.
How to use it
Program this as an audience favorite in December concerts, where its recognizable holiday spirit and multicultural message resonate with families and school communities. Pair it with a more reflective seasonal work to create programming contrast, or use it as your choral finale to leave the audience smiling.
