Douglas E. Wagner began his career in his native Chicago and earned degrees in music from Butler University before spending three decades as a high school music director and administrator. Since 1973, he has established himself as one of the most prolific composers and arrangers in American music education, with over 3,500 published works spanning choral literature, concert band, orchestra, handbell ensemble, organ, piano, and vocal music. His compositions have been performed in concert halls and broadcast on television and radio throughout the United States and internationally; more than seventeen million copies of his music are in circulation worldwide.
Wagner's approach to composition reflects his deep understanding of educational contexts and ensemble capabilities. Now based in Indianapolis, he continues to focus exclusively on composing and arranging music that serves school choirs, church musicians, and community ensembles.
