His work as a composer is matched by his credentials as a conductor and educator; he earned his Bachelor of Music from the University of Western Ontario, studied composition and arranging at the Dick Grove School of Music in Los Angeles, and completed a Ph.D. at York University in Toronto.

Gassi brings twenty-five years of experience teaching instrumental music at the elementary and secondary levels, work that directly informs his compositional voice.
