About the Composer: Adrian B. Sims

Adrian B. Sims (b. 2000) is a composer, conductor, educator, and trombonist from Seattle, Washington who graduated from Catonsville High School in Maryland. His compositions have earned recognition at The Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic, received selections on the Bandworld Top 100 List, and won awards through the Maryland Music Educators Association Young Composers Project and the Make Music Young Composers Contest. He has conducted his own works across Maryland schools and performs as a trombonist in top ensembles at the University of Maryland, where he studies composition with Dr. Robert Gibson and Brian Balmages while earning a dual degree in Music Education and Composition.

As a performer, Sims has experience across pit orchestras, symphony orchestras, jazz ensembles, and concert bands. During high school, he was selected multiple times for the Maryland All-State Band and performed alongside the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra. His musical foundation was shaped by his band directors Christopher Gnagey and Cindy Stevenson, whose guidance continues to influence his development as both composer and educator.
