His career spans faculty positions at College of the Siskiyous, Colorado State University, the University of Missouri at Kansas City, and currently Southern Oregon University, where he directs the Jefferson State Choral Coalition. He has mentored with vocal jazz luminaries including Bobby McFerrin, Mark Murphy, and Al Jarreau.

Shaw's compositional output stands at over 2500 arrangements and original works, with nearly 20 million copies in circulation worldwide. His music is performed across six continents, and his contributions have earned multiple ASCAP awards.
