About the Composer: Adrian B. Sims
Adrian B. Sims (b. 2000) grew up in Seattle, Washington, and completed his secondary education at Catonsville High School in Maryland. His compositions have earned recognition at The Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic and garnered selection for the Bandworld Top 100 List, alongside multiple competition wins including the Maryland Music Educators Association Young Composers Project and the Make Music Young Composers Contest. As a trombonist, he has performed across pit orchestras, symphony ensembles, jazz groups, and concert bands, earning selection to the Maryland All-State Band and performing alongside the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra during his high school years.
Currently pursuing a dual degree in Music Education and Composition at The University of Maryland, Sims studies with Matthew Guilford, solo bass trombonist with the National Symphony Orchestra. He has also conducted his own works at schools throughout Maryland and credits his development as a composer to mentorship from Dr. Robert Gibson, Professor of Composition at The University of Maryland, and world-renowned composer Brian Balmages. Sims acknowledges the lasting influence of his band directors Christopher Gnagey and Cindy Stevenson.
