About the Composer: Adrian B. Sims

Adrian B. Sims

Adrian B. Sims (b. 2000) is a composer, conductor, educator, and trombonist based in the Seattle area who studied composition at the University of Maryland under Robert Gibson and Brian Balmages. His works have been performed at The Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic, earned recognition on the Bandworld Top 100 List, and won multiple composition competitions including the Maryland Music Educators Association Young Composers Project and the Make Music Young Composers Contest.

As both a performer and educator, Sims has extensive experience with concert and jazz ensembles, pit orchestras, and all-state ensembles. He currently pursues a dual degree in Music Education and Composition at the University of Maryland while studying bass trombone with Matthew Guilford of the National Symphony Orchestra. His music reflects a deep understanding of what young musicians can accomplish when given engaging, accessible material.
