About the Composer: Roland Barrett

Roland Barrett

Roland Barrett's career has centered on both composition and music education. He joined the University of Oklahoma's music theory and composition faculty in 2001, bringing fifteen years of experience as Assistant Director of Bands. His teaching encompasses 20th century music theory and composition at the undergraduate and graduate levels, and he continues to arrange for the Pride of Oklahoma marching band.

Barrett has become a prolific composer and arranger with more than two hundred published works for symphonic band, chamber ensembles, and marching band. His compositions have appeared on National Public Radio and been performed by the Dallas Wind Symphony, All-State Honor Bands, and at major conventions including the Midwest Band & Orchestra Convention and the International Trumpet Guild. He is a multiple ASCAPlus award recipient and former winner of the Michael Hennagin memorial scholarship in composition.
