Douglas E. Wagner grew up in Chicago and earned both undergraduate and graduate degrees in music from Butler University. He spent three decades in high school music education and administration before committing fully to composition and arranging work.

His works have reached audiences through concert performances and broadcasts throughout North America and internationally, with total sales exceeding seventeen million copies.
