Joel Raney

Joel Raney's musical foundation was laid early: piano came before reading, and the gospel traditions of a rural Alabama Baptist church shaped his artistic voice permanently. He earned his bachelor's in choral conducting from the University of North Alabama, then studied piano performance at Juilliard, grounding his work in both liturgical knowledge and technical mastery.

Since 1999, Raney has become a prolific force in church music publishing, with over 300 titles in print primarily through Hope Publishing, where he serves as Editor. His output spans choral anthems, musicals, cantatas, handbell works, and solo piano pieces. Beyond the choir, his experience ranges from Broadway musical direction to composing and producing commercial soundtracks (over 2000 television and radio spots), jazz performance, and pop vocal arranging. He remains an active clinician, solo pianist, and currently serves as Minister of Music at First Baptist Church of Oak Park, Illinois.
