Description
Written for the Boca Raton Middle School Band in Florida, Iberian Escapades was inspired by the resort architecture of Addison Mizner, whose Mediterranean-style estates launched a "Florida Renaissance" and inspired architects across North America. Mizner identified each of his Boca Raton villas with Spanish names, three of which are captured in this musical collage: El Mirasol (it watches the sun) is a fanciful Flamenco-style opening; El Solano (the east wind) presents exotic colors and romantic themes; and La Guerida (the bounty of war) ends the piece with an aggressive and energetic statement.

About the Composer: Robert Sheldon
Robert Sheldon stands among the most frequently performed composers for wind band. His works appear on contest and concert programs internationally, and his music has been heard in some of the world's most prestigious venues, from Carnegie Hall to the Sydney Opera House. He is also the lead author of Sound Innovations for Concert Band, a foundational resource for ensemble development.
Sheldon's contributions to music education have earned recognition from the American School Band Director's Association, Phi Beta Mu, and ASCAP. Beyond composing, he maintains an active schedule as a guest conductor, clinician, and educator, having worked with honor bands and presented at universities and state conferences across the United States and internationally in Japan, Canada, Italy, Germany, Australia, and China. VanderCook College of Music honored him with a doctorate in 2020.
