Joel Raney's musical foundation was laid in the pews of a rural Alabama Baptist church, where gospel music first captured his ear and shaped the spiritual depth that runs through everything he writes. His formal training includes a bachelor's degree in choral conducting from the University of North Alabama and a master's degree in piano performance from Juilliard, credentials that undergird his distinctive voice as both composer and arranger.
Since 1999, Raney has established himself as a prolific force in church music, with over 300 published titles spanning choral anthems, musicals, cantatas, handbell works, and instrumental pieces. Beyond the sanctuary, he brings decades of commercial music production experience, film scoring, and theatrical direction to his craft. He remains active as a clinician, recitalist, and organist-piano duo performer with Jane Holstein, while serving as Minister of Music at First Baptist Church of Oak Park, Illinois.
