Joseph M. Martin trained at Furman University and the University of Texas, Austin, where he earned degrees in piano performance and later taught in the Piano Pedagogy Department. His career spans both the concert hall and the church, having performed solo recitals across the United States and Mexico and earned recognition as winner of the Nina Plant Wideman Competition, which led to a featured performance with the Guadalajara Symphony Orchestra.

Based in Austin, Texas, he continues composing and arranging prolifically, with his works performed in hundreds of congregations throughout the United States and Canada.
