Randall Hartsell's compositions have shaped the musical development of countless students since he first began writing for young pianists in high school. After earning his degree from East Carolina University, Hartsell returned to teaching and composing in earnest, eventually publishing over 60 collections and solos since his landmark three-book series "Something Special" appeared in 1990.
A North Carolina native, Hartsell learned piano through dedicated practice at his aunt and uncle's home before his family could afford their own instrument. That persistence shaped his understanding of what it takes to build a musician from the ground up. Today, he remains active as a teacher, accompanist, clinician, and church musician in Charlotte, bringing the same lyrical sensibility to his writing that first drew him to the instrument as a young student.
