About the Composer: Robert D. McCashin
Robert D. McCashin holds a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in conducting from the University of Arizona and earned both Bachelor and Master degrees in violin performance from Louisiana State University. He spent 43 years as a university conducting and string instructor, including 24 years at James Madison University where he directed the symphony, chamber orchestra, and opera orchestras while teaching orchestral conducting and applied strings. In 2015, he received JMU's Distinguished Teacher Award for the College of Visual and Performing Arts.
Before his position at James Madison, McCashin taught at the University of Texas at Arlington and Texas Wesleyan University, where he also conducted the Arlington Youth Symphony and served as associate conductor of the Youth Orchestras of Greater Fort Worth. He has published nearly 80 educational works spanning grades 1 through 5, many of which have become bestsellers and Editors' Choice selections. As a violinist, he performed with regional orchestras including the Fort Worth Symphony and Wichita Falls Symphony, and he co-authored the string class methods New Directions for Strings and A Scale in Time.
