About the Composer: Robert D. McCashin

Robert D. McCashin, DMA, spent 43 years as a conductor and string educator at the university level, most recently serving as Professor Emeritus and former Director of Orchestras at James Madison University. He earned degrees in violin performance from Louisiana State University and a doctorate in conducting from the University of Arizona, and was recognized with JMU's Distinguished Teacher Award in 2015.

McCashin has established himself as a prolific composer and arranger for educational ensembles, with nearly 80 published works spanning Grades 1 through 5. Many of his arrangements have earned bestseller and Editors' Choice recognition in educational music circles. Before his tenure at James Madison, he taught at the University of Texas at Arlington and Texas Wesleyan University, where he also conducted multiple youth orchestras and maintained an active private violin studio. He is co-author of New Directions® for Strings and A Scale in Time, widely used string class methods.
