About the Composer: Brian Balmages

Brian Balmages has established himself as a major voice in music for young ensembles, with commissions and performances spanning orchestras, bands, and chamber groups worldwide. His works appear regularly on concert stages from Carnegie Hall to the Kennedy Center and Sydney Opera House, and he has been recognized with the A. Austin Harding Award from the American School Band Directors Association and the 2020 NBA William D. Revelli Composition Contest. Beyond composing, Balmages maintains an active conducting schedule with all-state ensembles, university orchestras, and professional groups internationally, and currently serves as Director of MakeMusic Publications and Digital Education for Alfred and MakeMusic.

As both an alumnus and commissioned composer for James Madison University and the University of Miami, Balmages has demonstrated deep roots in music education. His work has been performed as part of the 2013 Presidential Inaugural Prayer Service and reflects a commitment to creating music that reaches audiences across all levels, from elementary school students to professional musicians.
