About the Composer: Adrian B. Sims
Adrian B. Sims was born in Seattle in 2000 and has established himself as a composer, conductor, educator, and trombonist while pursuing dual degrees in Music Education and Composition at the University of Maryland. His compositions have been performed at prestigious venues including The Midwest Band and Orchestra Clinic, earned recognition on the Bandworld Top 100 List, and won awards through the Maryland Music Educators Association Young Composers Project and the Make Music Young Composers Contest. As a performer, he has participated in ensembles ranging from pit and symphony orchestras to jazz and concert bands, earned multiple selections to the Maryland All-State Band, and performed alongside the Baltimore Symphony Orchestra.
Sims studies composition with Dr. Robert Gibson at the University of Maryland and has been mentored by world-renowned composer Brian Balmages. His work as a trombonist continues at the university level, where he performs in top ensembles and studies with Matthew Guilford, solo bass trombonist with the National Symphony Orchestra. He credits his band directors Christopher Gnagey and Cindy Stevenson for their ongoing support of his development as a musician and composer.
