David Schwoebel

David Schwoebel has served as Minister of Music and Composer in Residence at Derbyshire Baptist Church in Richmond, Virginia since 1997. He holds degrees from McKendree College and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, where his studies encompassed voice, organ performance, and composition. Throughout his career, he has built and directed a substantial music program that includes six choral ensembles, four handbell choirs, and a 32-piece orchestra, working with musicians across all ages.

Schwoebel's compositional voice extends into hymnody, with several of his tune names reflecting his family: MICHELLE (appearing in the 1991 Baptist Hymnal) and BRITTANY, ASHLEY, COURTNEY, ROSE MARY, and HENDRICKS AVENUE (all included in the Celebrating Grace Hymnal). COURTNEY and ROSE MARY also appear in Glory to God: The Presbyterian Hymnal. His approach to music ministry emphasizes discovery and development of musical gifts across a diverse congregation.
