About the Composer: Jay Althouse
Jay Althouse holds degrees in Music Education and Music from Indiana University of Pennsylvania, where he was honored as a Distinguished Alumni. His career in educational music publishing gave him eight years of experience managing rights and licenses, during which he served on the Executive Board of the Music Publishers Association of America. As a composer, he has created more than 800 choral works performed throughout the English-speaking world and maintains membership in ASCAP, earning regular recognition through their Special Award for standard music composition.
Beyond composition, Althouse has collaborated with his wife Sally K. Albrecht on children's musicals and compiled respected vocal solo collections including Folk Songs for Solo Singers. He co-authored foundational choral resources such as The Complete Choral Warm-up Book and Accent on Composers, and created classroom materials for music literacy and composer study. A North Carolina resident, Althouse has contributed to the folk music field through board service with the Folk Art Society of America and published articles in their quarterly periodical.
