A composer and arranger with more than 2500 works in print, Shaw earned degrees in Music Education and Choral Composition from San Jose State University and a DMA in Choral Conducting from the University of Washington. His arrangements have sold nearly 20 million copies worldwide and continue to shape repertoire in rehearsal rooms everywhere.

Shaw's teaching career reflects his deep commitment to choral artistry and his gift for making complex music accessible. He founded the acclaimed COS Vocal Jazz Ensemble at College of the Siskiyous and later directed innovative vocal programs at Colorado State University and the University of Missouri at Kansas City. His work has earned multiple ASCAP awards, and his creative reach extends beyond choral music into musical theater.
