Robert Sheldon stands among the most frequently programmed composers for wind ensemble in America. His catalog has earned recognition from the American School Band Directors Association, Phi Beta Mu, and ASCAP, and his works appear on contest and concert lists worldwide. He co-authored Sound Innovations for Concert Band and continues to produce new compositions annually while maintaining an active schedule as a guest conductor and clinician.

Sheldon's influence extends across continents. He has guest conducted All-State and Regional Honor Bands, presented clinician sessions at universities and state music education conferences, and led performances in some of the world's most prestigious venues: Carnegie Hall, Orchestra Hall, Boston Symphony Hall, the Sydney Opera House, and the Kennedy Center. VanderCook College of Music conferred upon him an honorary doctorate in 2020.
