For Sir David was commissioned in 2019 by Dr. Lawrence Stoffel and the CSUN Wind Ensemble in celebration of Sir David Whitwell, who brought the CSUN Wind Ensemble to national prominence in his time as the head of the band department.

David Whitwell is considered one of six men who have determined the course of American bands during the second half of the 20th century, as mentioned in the definitive history, The Twentieth Century American Wind Band (Meredith Music).

Charles Fernandez is an award-winning Emmy- and Annie-nominated composer based in Los Angeles. He has worked as a composer, orchestrator, arranger, conductor, bassoonist, and teacher since moving to LA in 1983.
