Description
As the title might imply, this unique composition contains several references to the number 5. For starters, the meter of 5/4 is an obvious connection. More subtle is the prominent use of the interval of a fifth, and also only five different pitches used throughout the entire work excerpt for two measures near the end. Even though "Fivefold" is composed using single tempo, the variety in textures and moods makes this particularly appealing. Dur: 4:00

About the Composer: Michael Oare
Michael Oare holds degrees in both Music Composition and Music Education from Old Dominion University and brings three decades of classroom experience to his work as a composer and arranger. His teaching tenure at Great Bridge Middle School spanned 33 years, during which his bands earned superior ratings for 32 consecutive years while performing grade 3 and 4 literature, with four conference performances at the Virginia Music Educators Association. His compositions have earned recognition in the "Teaching Music Through Performance" series published by GIA, and he continues to shape young musicians as conductor of the Bay Youth Orchestras of Virginia Concert Band.
Beyond the classroom, Oare serves as an active adjudicator and performer with the Virginia Wind Symphony, holds membership in ASCAP and Phi Beta Mu, and was honored as Chesapeake Public Schools' Middle School Teacher of the Year in 2016. He has received the National Band Association's Citation of Excellence twice, reflecting a career defined by consistent excellence in music education and composition.
